  • Public Act No. 24-41 
    • Requires SDE, in consultation with the School Nurse Advisory Council, established pursuant to section 10-212f, and the Association of School Nurses of Connecticut, to develop an antiepileptic medication administrating training program.

    • Requires SDE to distribute the Title IX compliance toolkit to local and regional boards of education and provide technical assistance to them on its implementation.

    • Generally lowers the threshold for blood lead levels in individuals at which the Department of Public Health (DPH) and local health departments must take certain actions.

    • Generally (1) allows school nurses and qualified school employees to maintain and administer opioid antagonists to students who do not have prior written authorization to receive the medication; (2) requires SDE to develop related guidelines; (3) authorizes prescribers and pharmacists to enter into agreements with school boards on the distribution and administration of opioid antagonists.

    • Adjusts the state budget by allocating $10,000,000 for School Based Health Centers, $604,000 for InterCommunity Health Centers, $2,000,000 for the distribution of menstrual products to schools, and other health services.

State Programs

All State Programs

  • Comprehensive Health Services and Sexual Health Services
    • Partnership to increase adolescents' access to developmentally appropriate health services that can include discussions and information about healthy relationships; education about and access to contraception, including the availability of condoms; HIV/STD and pregnancy testing; and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations. 
  • Healthy and Balanced Living Curriculum Framework 
    • Provides districts guidance to implement PK-12 curriculum that addresses the physical, mental, social, and emotional dimensions of health of students. 
  • Healthy School Communities for Successful Students Partnership 
    • Funded by a grant from the CDC and Prevention Division of Adolescent and School Health to increase the capacity school districts to implement policies and practices in sexual health that improve students’ health and academic outcomes. 
  • HIV/STD Education Program 
    • One component of the Partnership that includes the delivery of comprehensive sexual health education on HIV and STIs. 
  • School Health Profiles 
    • A survey funded by the Partnership that is used to understand and inform the state of middle and high school policies and programs focused on health.  
  • Sexual Health Services 
    • Services provided to students to protect their health, including preventative education, such as education about and access to contraception, condoms, and STIs. 
  • Teen Pregnancy Prevention Policies, Programs, and Services
    • One component of the Partnership that addresses the delivery of comprehensive sexual health education on teen pregnancy prevention. 
  • The Support for Pregnant and Parenting Teen Grant 
    • Grant for the improvement of the psychosocial health and academic outcomes of students who are pregnant or are parenting. Offers parenting and life skills education and support services.
